Microsoft Word Help!?

This is a flaw in Microsoft Word that's getting me extremely irritated. Whenever I accidentally forget to put a space between two words or want to go back to the middle of a sentence to add something, typing letters in between those words erase the words currently there. Same with the space bar. It might be confusing, but here's an example.

The dog chased after the cat.

If I wanted to change it so it was "black dog", i would have to click in between "The" and "dog" in order to add "black". Here's what would happen in MY Microsoft Word.

The blackhased after the cat.

Typing "black" completely erases any letters it would interfere with and the sentence does not expand.

HELP!

Microsoft Word Help!?
Could be one of 2 things...1 your insert button is "on." Find your insert button and select it once. If this doesn't work then it's 2...open word and go to tools on the top menu bar, select options from the drop down and go to the edit tab. If the box for "overtype mode" is checked, de-select/uncheck it. You should not have any more problems.
Reply:On your keyboard, press "insert". That should fix it.
Reply:OMG i have the exact problem and never know how to stop it
Reply:no problem. Hopefully you do not have Word 2007, 'cause I cannot help then. Look at the bottom of your screen, there is going to be your page numbers, and a bunch of possibly little codes. Very bottom of the screen. Look for "OVER" or "OVR" or something like that and double click on it. You should be able to type correctly.
