I wrote a long story and indented each paragraph with the "TAB" button on my keyboard. However, I want to shrink the indents to only four spaces (clicking the space bar four times).
How do I do this??
I dunno what type of Microsoft Word I have...it only says Microsoft word =o
Microsoft Word Question..... Please answer!!?
You can use the little triangle makers on the right side of the ruler that runs along the top of the page. One of them is your tab stop, so moving it will change your tab indent.
Or it most versions of Word, you can copy the tab indent, then go into "find and replace" (ctrl+h) and past the tab into the "find what" line (you can't just hit tab or it will go to the next line) then put 4 spaces in the "replace with" line and hit the replace all button.
This sounds strange, but will work because tab and 4 spaces are not the samething. If you turn on the formatting marks you'll see what I mean (tab is an arrow, spaces area dots)
Side note- if you click help, then about MS word it will tell you what version you are using.
Reply:In Microsoft Word, you should be able to see the ruler bar across the top of the page. If not, under the View menu, select Print Layout. This ruler bar will show all the custom tab stops. If nothing is shown, the default tab stops are at every 1/2 inch.
Select all text (CTRL+A) and edit the tab size.
Format %26gt; Tabs...
Change the default tab stops to something smaller. Since Word uses TrueType fonts, a space could mean something completely different for different fonts.
You can also do a Find and Replace (CTRL+H). Select the More button. Now there should be a few extra buttons at the bottom. One is Special. This allows you to select all the TABs. Put the TAB character in the Find what box, and enter four spaces in the Replace with box. Then Click Less and Replace All.
Reply:You can reset your tab stops.
A tab stop is a location on the horizontal ruler that indicates how far to indent text or where to begin a column of text. Tab stops enable you to line up text to the left, right, center, or to a decimal character or bar character. You can also automatically insert specific characters, such as periods or dashes, before the tabs.
-Highlight the paragraph(s) in which you want to set a tab stop. If you want to do the whole document, press CTRL+A
-On the Format menu, click Tabs.
-Under Tab stop position, type the position for a new tab, or select an existing tab stop to which you want to add leader characters.
-Under Alignment, select the alignment for text typed at the tab stop.
-Under Leader, click the leader option you want, and then click Set.
