Microsoft works?

Hi,

I have microsoft works on my computer, and half the people I send things to can't open what I send, and I can't easily print my work off at the library.

Is there an alternative that I can download easily? Can you download microsoft word? Or another programme which uses the same format?

Thanks for your help

Microsoft works?
abiword is a free word processor that can save files in Microsoft Word format. It's smaller and quicker than OpenOffice, both to download and to run, but OpenOffice has other applications as well (spreadsheet, etc).

I would say you pay your money and take your choice, but they're both free!!
Reply:I think you would need a disk and have Word installed in your computer. Try asking one of your local Retailers for advice - maybe Dell could advise you - worth a try www.dell.co.uk good luck
Reply:Open Office is your best option
Reply:maybe.
Reply:i found this too people sent me things to open and i couldn't..i found out that Microsoft works suite..doesn't include PowerPoint..and you have to get this downloaded ..p,c's don't have this added in their system either..so if you send something from your PC it maybe in PowerPoint..or word and people without PowerPoint or word cant open it..local libraries usually dint have the Microsoft word or PowerPoint..
Reply:You can download a program called "open office" it is available here http://www.openoffice.org/ completely free. It is not made by Microsoft but it has all the same features of the world renowned Microsoft word. Also in the package you get a version of excel (for spread sheets) a version of PowerPoint (for slide shows) and a few other things.

All the documents can be saved in "Microsoft 2003" format which means most of your friends should be able to open them if they have office 2003. And I'm almost certain your library will use office 2003.
Reply:MS Works and MS Office are NOT compatible! It's a con from MicroSoft.

OpenOffice is compatible with word, PowerPoint is NOT compatible with OpenOffice. OpenOffice is free.
Reply:cause they don't have Microsoft Works or Word like you do so you have nothing to worry about that's their problem!!!

Reply:yeh, the simplest thing to do is to purchase microsoft word, but i think i know something that you can do.

After finishing your document, first save it the way you normally save it so that you have saved it before i tell you my tip....

here it is:

go to file--%26gt; then save as--%26gt; thenunder 'save as type', pick under dropdown menu 'Word-97-03 (.doc*)' (you can choose Word 07 if that's your office's current version) This will simply enable you to actually open the document yo made in works in microsoft word format, hopefully this will resolve your problem--- you'll be able to print!!!!

WARNING though:

- This only works well with typed text document, if you make leaflets and brochures in works then do not expect iit to work properly in word

hope this has helped you :)

have a good day!
