Cannot download from Microsoft.com?

I'm trying to upgrade my Windows XP through Microsoft.com. Anytime I try to download ANYTHING from Microsoft.com, I get a "This page cannot be displayed" page and no download. It doesn't matter if it's IE 7 or just a codec package, I cannot download ANYTHING. I've seen people give links to fix this THROUGH MICROSOFT.COM and I cannot download that. It comes up with the same thing.

I'm using Windows XP, my active X controls are fine and everything is real and belongs to me. I don't have a firewall or an anti-virus program. I was trying, originally, to download Flash Player 9 and it would not work, so I wanted to update my browser. However, I cannot do that without downloading from Microsoft.com, and I cannot download anything.

Any suggestions?

Cannot download from Microsoft.com?
well maybee it is the download so go to tools=%26gt;internet options=%26gt;security=%26gt;on the bottom you will find a tab saying custom level=.click on that=%26gt;scroll down=%26gt;you will find a list on downloads=%26gt;enable all of them=%26gt; when you download something there will be a bar at the top click on it and then click on download file it should work.
Reply:Click on Tools in Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options, then Security. Click on Internet then Cuctom level and scroll down to downloads and make sure they are enabled.
Reply:All the answers above are great, so I won't repeat any that I have read.

Instead I am going to mention the obvious, If you have no virus protection, YOU HAVE A VIRUS.

I have seen it many times a virus stops things from working.

you need to get rid of it to make anything work.

I suggest AVAST it is free and it works.

I also use AVG, and Zone Alarm at the same time.
Reply:Firstly go to add remove programs and scroll down to the W section. Uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7.

Ie 6 will appear

do a windows update

on the update screen where you select express or custom, look up the top and select microsoft update

this should offer you to validate your XP as genuine, then offer you IE7 to download. Download it as a file and keep it in your my documents for future use.

I suggest not to bother updating MS Office as its only secirity stuff

just read each update offer and make your own decision.

when you finished rebootin, click windows update again

It will go to microsoft updates

look on the LHS columns and change it back to windows updates. Dont bother with microsoft updates.

after you done the update etc do this

Slow computer IE freezes

==================

Slowly tap the F8 key while the computer is powering up

Just after Verifying DMI files occurs the F8 key will point the computer to a menu where safe mode can be selected.

Note if you mistakenly tap F8 key again, it will continue through to normal boot

Scroll and select safe mode with network

Use explorer to delete the contents of the folder datastore.

Datastore can be found in c:\windows\softwaredistribution.

You may have to do this regularly when the computer slows.

The folder rebuilds itself and the contents are to do with windows updates and logs for errors. There is no harm in deleting the contents.

Reboot.

Also

Over time IE7 seems to set its own (or programs do) tick boxes in the advance tab.

In IE7 Advance Tab

Click Restore defaults

Tick empty temp files when browser closes (this empties the cache)

Bullet disable phishing filter

Delete Browser History, cookies the whole lot regularly.

Close the browser to set the settings.
