When microsoft outlook is first installed and starts up is askes for a microsoft exchange server and an account name. i cant find the exchange server for yahoo.

Yahoo almost definitely is not using Exchange to run their mail. Check the Yahoo FAQ/help menu. Most "free" Yahoo accounts don't work with Outlook-- you have to pay more.
