Is microsoft office 2000 documents compatable with microsoft office xp?

At my job (small business...3 computers networked together), we all have microsoft office xp (and windows xp)..... my computer is really slow and wasnt supposed to have XP installed on it. So to try and free up some memory I was going to uninstall Office Xp and reinstall Microsoft office 2000. If I do this, will there be any compatability issues when we open office documents? (If I create a document in 2000, will they be able to view/edit it with no problem?....and if they do and save it on office Xp, would I be able to open it in 2000 for viewing/editing?)

Is microsoft office 2000 documents compatable with microsoft office xp?
Hi,

Anything you create in Office 2000 will open in Office XP. However, the other way around will not work directly.

For you to open Office XP files ask your colleagues to also do a "Save As" in their documents. In the drop down for "Save as type" get them to choose the option, for example in Word that has Word 97-2002 %26amp; 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc). This will remove any Word 2002 (XP) specific features, however will allow you to open their documents in Office 2000.

Reply:Yes they are compatable. But I think you are barking up the wrong tree. Get some more memory and clean up other applications. Scan for spyware, viruses and don't start up unnecesary programs when you boot. Go To Start|run| type in msconfig and uncheck any unnecessary programs that are starting up.
Reply:Office 2000 should ba almost 100% compaitable. Office XP added some additional functionality, but the formating didn't change
Reply:will work together, but i would add more ram to memory rather than delete.doesn't cost that much and sounds as if you need it.will speed up your PC.time is money!
Reply:some documents are compatible, some are not. the Microsoft Words is compatible with any version. so is the Text documents.
Reply:It shouldn't be a problem at all. Where I work many people have XP while some, myself included, still have to putt along with old school MS Office 2000.
Reply:My civilian computer was XP and my base computer was 2000 and my office docs worked fine on either.
Reply:yes you would be able to open it the only programs that are not really compatible are windows 95 %26amp; 98 to xp or 2000
