I want to locate the Microsoft Works files from my dad's laptop to my brand new computer that my dad built. Since he built it it did not come with Microsoft Works or Microsoft Word. How can I locate the files so I can put them on a flash drive and put them on my computer? Or does anyone know all of the file locations? Thanks, Shane
Transferring Microsoft Word to another computer?
Aside from it being against your license to put the software on more than one machine at a time, the installation of MS Works, or any decent sized program, isn't limited to a few files in a directory, but can be strewn over many directories. In addition, many entries are made in various places in the Registry, a catch-all file for all programs. Thirdly, the installation program takes into account the situation on the machine as it's installing Works. A different machine might in fact get different files.
Sorry.
Reply:You can't do it that way. you need the original install disk from microsoft. with the key
Reply:If you mean you wish to transfer the actual Works applications, you can't simply transfer them, you must use the actual disk that you originally used to install the programs.
Reply:You can put OpenOffice on that computer which is free and works with MS Word documents and is like MS Word: http://www.openoffice.org
Reply:There is no practical way to do this. The thing to do is buy a crisp new MS Word 2003 CD for $39, and be done with the problem. See the link below.
MS Works is free, but its not worth that much.
