Can't open microsoft word/excel? please help!?
Hi Dirty.... I'am going to give you two way to fix your problem:

Pay attention please.

1) Easy way. Do not have to think. Never will know the cause.

Reinstall Excel.

2) Smart way. It should by applied ONLY when you get the same problem, I mean you can not open Excel. ok?

Call Task manager by pressing at the same time CTRL + ALT + DEL

3) If you have Win XP.... click on Task Manager buttom to star Task Manager.

If you have Win 2000 Task Manager windows will comes up immediately.

4) Task Manager window has 4 tabs. Select "Processes" Tab

5) Click on Image Name (first column header) to order files by name.

6) Go down...down...down...until you get "Excel.exe" once or three or 5 times...it does not matter.

7) Close them by clicking on each one and after clicking right buttom from the mouse and select End Process....

One by one.

8) Try again openning Excel. Yahoo!!! you got it!

Conclusion. Excel can be open many times...that's true. But when it is open like a hidden element, it can not be open again. Hideen elements works like a wall that stops others excels.

That ways is easy too, but faster! no need CDs to reinstall, no need IT people. Do it yourself!

After that you will be the best at your office.

ok dude! hope that helps you.
Reply:Try what statik_24 advised.

Attempt to do a recovery installation from the windows office cd.

Also ask admin if they can first attempt to do a scandisk and correct any errors found.

It sounds very technical but i believe a scan disk may help.

It should'nt get worse that this.
Reply:Are you opening by double clicking on the file?

Try starting the program and clicking file - open and see what happens, then ask another question with the new info.
Reply:Reinstalling office will not affect your saved documents so I would give that a try first. You are not using a newer version of office at work to home are you? That can sometimes cause problems.
Reply:Call up the person in charge of IT at your computer and ask them - they can help ya out.
Reply:For newer editions of Office on XP... if you go to add/remove, you can select Office and one of the options will be to repair / reinstall. If your it guy was thinking right (ahem) then the install files for Office are still on the computer. IF not, you'll need to borrow a copy of MS Office to finish the job.

Or, plan "B", download a copy of OpenOffice from OpenOffice.org.
